THE MELJON SINGERS PRESENTS "A SUITABLE JOB FOR A WOMAN"
Music by women composers of the 19th to the 21st century
Saturday 6 March, 7.30pm
St Barnabas Church, 127 Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green, IG8 7HX
£12 | £10 Concessions | Under-18s Free.
Special Offer: Book and pay for two tickets in advance and you can claim an additional two tickets FREE.
Tickets are available from the Meljon Box Office on 020 8550 7481 or www.meljon.org.uk
The Meljon Singers are joined by the piano and soprano duo Consonum for an evening celebrating vocal music by women composers. The choral songs of Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Wieck Schumann and Rebecca Clarke are featured alongside a sparkling selection of music by contemporary women composers, including Judith Weir’s Vertue and works by Meljon’s Musical Director Janette Ruocco. Fine music has no gender, but though celebrated in their day, women composers have for the most part been ‘written out’ of musical history. In this adventurous programme, The Meljon Singers restore them to their rightful place and demonstrate in the liveliest way that composition is ‘A Suitable Job For A Woman’.
