Winter ducks

Mallards are the default duck in Wanstead. In winter, however, they are augmented by a host of other species that migrate from their breeding grounds further north to spend the winter months in our comparatively mild climate. They may not arrive in large numbers, but if you look carefully at our local ponds over the coming months you should be able to spot them. Jonathan Lethbridge, author of wansteadbirder.blogspot.com, provides a guide.
