A talk examining the occupations that were prevalent in 18th- and 19th-century Essex will take place at the East of London Family History Society's meeting at Wanstead Library on 23 January.

"This talk is based on a document created in preparation for the 1831 census. It detailed the names, addresses and occupations of labourers and artisans resident at that time in Halstead," said Michael Holland, whose presentation will conclude with an explanation of higglers and moze makers (7pm; visitors: £1.50).
